Visitor Information

Worship at First Christian Church is joyful and life-giving. We invite you to worship with us!

Sunday Mornings

We gather for worship together in our sanctuary on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. and livestream this service to our Facebook page, YouTube channel, and this website (click the "Livestream" button in the red ribbon, above!). About four times per year, we enjoy a church-wide lunch in Fellowship Hall following our worship service.

Adult Sunday school meets immediately prior to the service, in The Study, located in Fellowship Hall.

Our 10:00 service includes our choir, preaching from the pulpit, and communion. (The Disciples receive communion every Sunday. Read more, here.)

Location & Parking

Our church is in the middle of Baton Rouge situated on Old Hammond Highway in Baton Rouge, about one-third of the way from Jefferson to Airline Highway — with entrances to the west of our sanctuary and one at the Old Hammond-Chevelle Drive traffic light. Lots of free parking awaits you, and specially-marked visitor spaces and spaces for the mobility impaired are on the west entrance drive.

Our sanctuary is the building nearest Old Hammond Highway, and the main entrance doors face the courtyard centering it and Fellowship Hall. There are a number of signs to direct you, as well as identifying each building on our campus.

Our address is:

First Christian Church  - Disciples of Christ
8484 Old Hammond Highway
Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70809

Wherever you may be located within the greater Baton Rouge area, we are close to you — Come worship with us!

What To Expect Inside

Upon entering the narthex (foyer), our friendly congregation will greet you and offer you a service bulletin with that service's order of worship.

You'll see people dressed in "Sunday best" as well as "Sunday comfortable." Our only dress code is to wear some clothes!

Find a seat in any pew. You may prefer to follow along with the liturgy, readings, and songs from the bulletin in your hands and the Bible and hymnals in the pew racks, or by using the digital monitors available above the choir and on the west wall.

We will sing together, read Scripture together, pray together, and listen together to pastoral preaching. Our music style is blended, consisting of old, familiar hymns as well as more contemporary offerings.

We will share in the Lord's meal, together. Everyone is invited to the Lord's Table, as God has welcomed us.

Our Chancel Choir leads singing and often offers an anthem or special piece of music, preaching is from the pulpit, and communion is distributed to the pews by our deacons. A brief Children's Moment is presented, where the message of the day is delivered in a way designed just for them!

We hope you will share your name and contact information with us in the Guest & Attendance Register found at the end of each pew. We'd love to follow up with you later in the week, and we do not share your information with anyone else.

Our services last about one hour.

Accessibility

Our sanctuary is accessible, as are all the buildings on our one-story campus. Accessible restrooms are located in the sanctuary building.

Listening assistance devices available for worship services. Please let a greeter or deacon know, or visit the A/V booth near the southwest corner of the sanctuary. If there are any other accommodations we can make for you, please let us know!

Worshiping with Children

Children are always welcome in worship at First Christian Church. Worship notebooks, crayons, pencils, etc., prepared with activities to engage younger minds with the Sunday lessons and theme are available in the narthex (foyer). Please return these items to the bookshelf after the service so we can update them for the following week.

If you'd prefer, your infants and toddlers will be warmly cared for in our professionally-staffed nursery. The nursery opens at 9:45 a.m. and is open until the close of the 10:00 service to care for infants and toddlers through age five. Our nursery staff is CPR-certified and have undergone rigorous background checks.

A Children's Moment is offered during the service, and children in the nursery may be brought to the sanctuary for this message.

Getting More Involved

We worship together every Sunday, but also have fun together, grow in the Spirit together, and participate in our community throughout the week. Please check the Sunday announcement sheet and digital promos, click here for our church-calendar, and/or call the church office (225-926-4175) to let us help finding just the spot for you! You can also read about the various opportunities to serve in and through First Christian Church, here.

We are so glad you are interested in joining us for Sunday opportunities and worship at First Christian Church, and hope to see you, soon!
