The Latin cross or crux immissa is a type of cross in which the vertical beam sticks above the crossbeam, with the three upper arms either equally long or with the vertical topmost arm shorter than the two horizontal arms, and always with a much longer bottom arm. This Latin cross is depicted with a small nimbus surrounding the crossbeam in red, the color of the Passion of Christ, with the perimeter of the cross surrounded in blue, the color of the waters of Baptism.

When this perishable body puts on imperishability, and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will be fulfilled: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” —1 Corinthians 15:54
