The trumpet is rich in Biblical reference, from Genesis through the Revelation to John. It symbolizes the spiritual warfare between good and evil, and to the Christian, the shofar typology is that of the ram sacrificed by Abraham in place of his son Isaac. As a call to worship in the Old Testament, it is representative of the biblical prophets who called upon the Jewish people to become better in their service to God:
Blow the trumpet in Zion, And sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; For the day of the LORD is coming… —Joel 2:1
