This Sunday at First Christian Church
Rev. David Chisham continues his sermon series on hearing God's call with "Called to Wholeness," this Sunday.
Our Sunday worship is at 10:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary - and livestreamed to our website, Facebook, and YouTube channel. Please check in and follow the service bulletin, here.
Considering the increased number of cases and positivity in our area, it is important for us to remember our call to care for one another. Please continue to follow social distancing and masking guidelines throughout your day, and particularly in the church campus rooms for Sunday worship or classes. We're all growing weary of this, yet need to respect and support each other in keeping safe!

COVID-19 VACCINATION INFO UPDATE
Margaret Moore advised us this morning that the EBR Council on Aging continues to hold pop-up vaccine clinics in our area. We contacted COA for details, and learned the clinic scheduled for Thursday evening was fully booked before 10 a.m. this morning, but COA reps encourage all those in the current tier — age 70 or older — call them at 225-923-8000 to be placed on their notification list for the next pop-up clinic, likely to be held within the next couple of weeks. Thank you, Margaret, for reminding us of this valuable resource!

The class meets both in person in the church library and via Zoom, immediately following the Sunday morning worship service (about 11:15 a.m.).

Coming this Lent
February 2 is celebrated in some churches as the Feast of the Presentation, reminding us of Simeon and Anna meeting Jesus at his presentation in the temple 40 days after his birth and declaring the coming of the Lord. We have exited the Incarnational season of the church year, and the last of our Christmas decorations are finally put away.
Since February 2 is also the midpoint of the season of winter, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Phil the groundhog declares the length of our wait for spring weather. Six more weeks this year, says Phil. Six weeks 'til the spring equinox is an absolute in scientific terms, but, thankfully, Phil has only a 39% success rate on predicting weather patterns. In very ancient times, the midpoint of winter was seen as the time to begin ritual cleaning out of the detritus accumulated during these long, dark, cold nights so we can look forward to more sunlight and new life.
Beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 17, we will start a journey together through Lent. With daily images and notes from Rev. David Chisham, we will make our pilgrimage through Lent based somewhat on the Camino de Santiago - the Way of St. James. We will move, even if only through our own backyard or imagination, and bring in all our senses to experience change in a myriad of ways.
Like the pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, you may wish to bring a stone, pebble, or some other such token, as we offer our prayers and meditations during Lent. Begin thinking about this item, now, so you will have it selected and ready as we begin our journey two weeks from today.
Our daily notes will be sent via email. If you're on this list, you will receive the notes. If you'd prefer not to receive them, please adjust your subscription, here, leaving unchecked the box for "devotionals."
