Do You Believe in Angels?

You may not believe in angels, but I do. I would like to share one of my experiences with you, this morning.

Guye and I were living on Lake  Tenkiller in Oklahoma, and we were mowing our lawn that morning. I was moving our self-propelled mower from our storage building down to our patio to use later. As I was taking the mower down an incline, I apparently let the mower come out of gear and it began to move much faster than my legs would take me. As I went down, still holding onto the mower, I felt and heard a snap in my ankle. This was not a “good” feeling.

At the same time, I saw a car go down our drive to a neighbor’s home, their vacation home. By the time I was able to get Guye’s attention that I needed help, the man in the car was coming up our drive and stopped himself to see if I needed help. It turned out he was a relative of the homeowners, and a nurse with a home health care facility, 25 miles away. Guye was able to drive right up beside me, and the nurse was able to help me get into our car.

I had never met or seen this man before. After connecting with my primary doctor in Muskogee, he asked me to go to the Emergency Room, 45 miles away.

I did feel there was a reason this nurse had come to check on his sister’s home, which he and his daughter had planned to use that weekend. I do feel “someone” had chosen a time for this nurse to come to the lake that morning. That day, he was certainly my angel. We lived by ourselves in the woods. The owners of the vacation home lived in North Carolina, and rarely came to the lake.

I feel during these uncertain times of the Covid-19 pandemic many have experienced angels, or have been angels themselves, helping others. Whether the Lord has sent an angel to help us, or it is simply us “letting go and let GOD,” I will always try to give thanks  to our Lord for all He does for us in the good times and the bad times.

Many places  in the scriptures we are told, “The Lord sent an angel.” In Matthew 1:20, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, and told him to not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife. In Matthew 2:19, when Herod died, an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up, and take your child and his mother to the land of Israel.” In Matthew 28:2, “And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord , descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.” In verse 5, “The angel spoke to Mary Magdalene and the other Mary.” Whether you believe in angels today or not, we must thank God for these experiences in our lives.

One of my favorite prayers is, “Lord, help me to remember that nothing is going to happen to me today that you and I together can’t handle.”
