I have a friend who has had many physical problems for a number of years. His wife has a lot on her hands taking care of him. Every morning when he wakes up, he hollers, “Well, I’m alive!”
A seminary professor once said, “If you wake up in the morning, and you are still breathing, it means God still has a plan for your life.”I am reminded of a very familiar verse out of Psalm 118, one heard often in church: “This is the day that the Lord has made. Rejoice and be glad in it.”
Rejoice! No matter what our circumstance, our time is given us by God to enjoy all creation. No matter what our circumstance, there are beautiful moments all through the day – the sunrise, the sunset, the moon, a smiling child in push cart at the grocery (one too small to be hollering for a candy bar), two puppies playing. You have choices – to view your shortcomings, your lack of health, yours pain, your struggles as the focus of your day, or to observe the beautiful moments from a beautiful and loving Father.
Rejoice! Be thankful that God has given each of us a day more of abundant life. Rejoice! Especially this week when we have just celebrated that Jesus has forgiven all of us our sins and has raised us up to eternal life.
This is the day that the Lord has made – for me and especially for you! Be glad! Pray “Thank You, Lord, for this brand new morning! What can I do for You today?”
