Young Adult Disciples

First Christian Church's newest and fastest growing small group is the Young Adult Disciples (YADs). This group caters to a diverse demographic of people including the college, post-high school, and young professional crowd in Baton Rouge. We meet on Sunday evenings for conversation and fellowship usually over a small meal, coffee, or ice cream.

YADs provides a space for those individuals who have graduated from our Sunday Night Youth Program, but it has also been a home away-from-home for LSU students looking for a community of faith to strengthen and support them during their college years.

YADs also hopes to provide a place for the young professional and post-high 20 something navigating their way between their relationship with Christ as well as other aspects of life. Life as a young adult can be overwhelming and full of a variety of challenges. We strive to provide a real and relevant ministry that speaks to the unique experience of a young adult Christian.

What have we done in the past year???

2 retreats to Lake Maurepas

Hosted the annual FCC Fall Festival (complete with "Trunk or Treat")

Particpated in mission trips, brass ensemble, praise band, habitat builds

Christmas Party and Secret Santa Exchange

Meet weekly for food, renewed faith and fellowship.

For your reflection...

A Jewish story tells of the good fortune of a hardworking farmer. The Lord appeared and granted him 3 wishes, but with the condition that whatever he received, his neighbor would receive double. The farmer, scarcely believing his good fortune, asked for one hundred cattle. Immediately it was granted him and he was overjoyed, until he saw that 200 cattle were given to his neighbor. So he asked for 200 additional acres. Again he was delighted at receiving it, until he saw an additional 400 given to his neighbor.

The farmer, unable to celebrate God's goodness, couldn't help the feelings of jealousy. He couldn't shake the feelings of being slighted that his neighbor was favored more than he. Finally, he asked for his third wish: to be struck blind in one eye. And God wept.

How true it is that we often want mercy for ourselves but justice for others. In spite of a rich Gospel message of abundant grace and forgiveness, we see things only in terms of earthly concepts of "fairness." Yet the truth remains that only those who are able to celebrate God's mercy to others can experience that mercy themselves.

Safe Church Training -- There will be two Safe Church training meetings – August 29 and September 4. Each will be at 9:30am in the Youth Building. If you are involved with any of our children/youth programs in a leadership position and haven’t gone thru the training, please make plans to attend one of these meetings. Contact Rev.
