Let’s be honest...explaining to others who we are as a church is not always an easy task.  With a name like “Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)”, you’ve said a mouthful, but you might find people looking at you like you haven’t clarified anything; or worse they may get the wrong impression.  I remember speaking with a woman about my church – upon hearing that we were part of the Christian Church (D.O.C.) she exclaimed, “that sounds like one of those ‘bible-thumping’ churches!  Are you one of those ‘bible-thumping’ churches?”  I explained that yes, we do believe in the Bible, but no, we probably are not the stereotypical ‘bible-thumping’ church that she is thinking more

Liliia Oliinyk - Organist

Native of Ukraine, Liliia started studying piano at age 6. She attended Kherson Music School for the next 8 years and graduated summa cum laude from KMS in 2003. Upon completing music school studies, Liliia entered Kherson Music College where she studied for the next four years. She graduated summa cum laude from KMC in 2007 with the young specialist degree in piano performance. During her studies in Ukraine, Liliia was an active participant and winner in numerous regional and national festivals and competitions.

Liliia came to United States in 2008 to pursue her Bachelor of Music degree at Southeastern Louisiana University in Dr. Kenneth Boulton’s studio. While at SLU, she was active as soloist, accompanist and piano teacher. Liliia also was active collaborator with section leaders of SLU Chamber orchestra and Wind Symphony. She also served as a rehearsal pianist for opera and musical productions in the Northshore and Hammond area. Liliia was First Prize winner of the 2011 MTNA State Piano Competition (Baton Rouge, LA), and was also awarded Second/Alternate Place in 2012 MTNA Regional Piano competition held in Austin, TX. She graduated cum laude from SLU in December of 2012.

Liliia is currently in her second year of her Doctor of Music Arts study at LSU and continues to perform as both a soloist and collaborative pianist in various concerts and festivals.
