For Your Reflection....

Let’s be honest...explaining to others who we are as a church is not always an easy task.  With a name like “Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)”, you’ve said a mouthful, but you might find people looking at you like you haven’t clarified anything; or worse they may get the wrong impression.  I remember speaking with a woman about my church – upon hearing that we were part of the Christian Church (D.O.C.) she exclaimed, “that sounds like one of those ‘bible-thumping’ churches!  Are you one of those ‘bible-thumping’ churches?”  I explained that yes, we do believe in the Bible, but no, we probably are not the stereotypical ‘bible-thumping’ church that she is thinking more

How would you describe your worship style and worship service?

In general, our worship is 'traditional'. While we do have a similar flow to our worship services from one week to the next, we do not employ a great deal of formality. We celebrate communion every week and that is very important to us--and everyone is welcome eat and drink at the communion table. We blend good music, fun and reverence.

Our 8:30 a.m. service is generally smaller and more intimate worship service.  The music is any combination of hymns, gospel songs and familiar refrains, and we gather in a circle around the communion table to take the bread and cup.

Our 10:50 a.m. service is a larger service and has a little more formality to it, though it is not a "high church" service. One of the choirs will sing or play special music, and there is a children’s message.

We also have special worship services throughout the year including Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Ecumenical Thanksgiving, Pentecost and others.

We hope you will find one of our worship services meaningful and fulfilling!
