There are many ways that we worship with one another, have fun together, grow through the Holy Spirit, and participate in the community here at FCC. We hope you will find enough information below that you feel invited and comfortable to get involved with our church family. We would love to have you join us!

Bible Study

Men's Bible Study

Creative lessons and spirited discussions. Men of all ages are invited to this study. Anyone with a strong interest in studying the Word are welcome.

Time: 6:30 p.m., First Monday of the month

Time: 1:00 p.m. every Thursday

Group Study

Get Re-Connected!

Rev. Michael is offering everyone the chance to "get re-connected" with the Disciples church by taking a five week class on who we are, both as Disciples and as a congregation at FCCBRLA. This class is not limited to seasoned church members, and is a combination of long-standing members, visitors, new members and everything in between! So far two sessions are completed, with more than 25 people having been involved. The next session will be offered Sunday Feb 28 through March 28 and will be held Sundays at 9:30. After Easter another session will be offered.

Disciple's Women

The Disciple Women's group is part of a national organization of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). They are very active in our congregation and the region. Mission work, study and fellowship are the mainstay of this group. All women, of all ages, are invited to attend.

Synergy

Synergy is a women's group that is part of the Disicple Women, that meets in the evening to accommodate the working woman's schedule. Contemporary study, fellowship, refreshments, and worship are part of each meeting's program. All women, of all ages, are invited to attend.

Fellowship

50 Club

A social group for all who were born in 1950 or earlier. Day trips to points of interest, guest speakers, and lunch outings are part of the group's scheduling. Newcomers welcome.

Crafters

A group of ladies who create craft items in order to support mission projects.

Time: 9:30 a.m., Thursdays

Tee Playing Christians Golf League

A group of church members and friends who enjoy fun and fellowship on the links. Prizes are awarded for top performances. The groups plays from February through October - check the church calendar for the next outing.

Time: 8:30 a.m., scheduled Saturdays

Coffee Fellowship

Coffee and snacks are set up in the fellowship hall for all to enjoy every Sunday morning.

Fellowship Dinners

Church dinners have always been a part of the Disciples of Christ tradition and First Christian carries on that tradition in grand style! Dinners are scheduled every four to six weeks. Many are "potluck" dinners immediately following second service. Occasionally Fellowship dinners take the form of picnics, ice cream socials, or catered events and are sometimes held in the evening. The only constant is good food and good friends. We hope you will come and join us!

Fellowship Events

At First Christian, we love to get together to share fun and fellowship. We believe spending time with our Christian friends both inside and outside the church walls is a wonderful way to strengthen our families and our faith.

For your reflection...

A Jewish story tells of the good fortune of a hardworking farmer. The Lord appeared and granted him 3 wishes, but with the condition that whatever he received, his neighbor would receive double. The farmer, scarcely believing his good fortune, asked for one hundred cattle. Immediately it was granted him and he was overjoyed, until he saw that 200 cattle were given to his neighbor. So he asked for 200 additional acres. Again he was delighted at receiving it, until he saw an additional 400 given to his neighbor.

The farmer, unable to celebrate God's goodness, couldn't help the feelings of jealousy. He couldn't shake the feelings of being slighted that his neighbor was favored more than he. Finally, he asked for his third wish: to be struck blind in one eye. And God wept.

How true it is that we often want mercy for ourselves but justice for others. In spite of a rich Gospel message of abundant grace and forgiveness, we see things only in terms of earthly concepts of "fairness." Yet the truth remains that only those who are able to celebrate God's mercy to others can experience that mercy themselves.

Safe Church Training -- There will be two Safe Church training meetings – August 29 and September 4. Each will be at 9:30am in the Youth Building. If you are involved with any of our children/youth programs in a leadership position and haven’t gone thru the training, please make plans to attend one of these meetings. Contact Rev.
