For Your Reflection....

Let’s be honest...explaining to others who we are as a church is not always an easy task.  With a name like “Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)”, you’ve said a mouthful, but you might find people looking at you like you haven’t clarified anything; or worse they may get the wrong impression.  I remember speaking with a woman about my church – upon hearing that we were part of the Christian Church (D.O.C.) she exclaimed, “that sounds like one of those ‘bible-thumping’ churches!  Are you one of those ‘bible-thumping’ churches?”  I explained that yes, we do believe in the Bible, but no, we probably are not the stereotypical ‘bible-thumping’ church that she is thinking more

Our Confession of Faith

We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and proclaim him as Lord and Savior of the world.

Communion is at the heart of our worship, and that is why we celebrate it weekly. Christ's table is open to all who wish to share at His table; one need not be a member of FCC to partake.

Individual Faith

We believe that individuals are free to examine and study scripture for themselves, and are encouraged to discover and grow in their faith through prayer, study and reflection with other people of faith.

The Bible alone is our guide for faith and practice. While we agree with the essence of many of the Christian creeds, we do not use particular creeds to determine and define what an individual should or must believe.

We practice baptism by immersion for those who confess their faith in Jesus Christ. But we are also an open congregation. This is, if you have already baptized in another church, whether as an infant or youth or adult, we do not insist on an additional baptism or re-baptism for salvation or to place membership with this congregation. We 'dedicate' infants; the church covenants and promises to surround the children with Christ's love in such a way that they will also come to know Christ one day.

All that is required to be a member of FCC is a confession of faith and baptism. If you are already a baptized member of another church, you may transfer your membership to FCC by coming forward at the invitation and state your faith in Christ. If you are not baptized, you may come forward during the invitation and then, working with one of the ministers, set a date for your baptism. Children and youth seeking to join are also invited to contact one of our ministers, as they will be welcomed into our family and provided with support as their relationship with Christ grows.

We believe in the essential one-ness of ALL Christians in Christ's body. We believe that we are Christians only, but not the only Christians. We look forward and work toward a day when all Christians may be united as Jesus intends, when we allow our common faith in Jesus to overcome the lesser things that divide us.
